The elder one Shashi Suri (Kunal Khemu) has a penchant for taking extreme measures to protect the younger one, Riya (Richa Sharma). His one day plan is to move to Mumbai, get a job as a detective and catch the person who threatens Riya. The movie begins on 18th May 2005, Mumbai, an old wall covered with graffiti. A young woman, Nisha (Shraddha Kapoor), is being abducted in the middle of the night from a crowded bus. In the investigation, Shashi is shown as a clumsy person. He is always accused of making compromises with the villains. Shashi has the company of his friend Malvi (Adil Hussain) who also works as a cop. He is shown as a cool and educated person, who is good at teaching others how to solve cases. Nisha’s dad (Zain Imam) is a police officer who works for the city’s district crime branch. He is also portrayed as a kind and generous person. Riya is Shashi’s girlfriend. She is an extremely cheerful and sensitive girl. She was found crying in the middle of the road after she had run away from the protection of her maternal grandparents. Shashi comes to her rescue and takes her home. Shashi’s father was a police officer and he became disabled after being injured in the line of duty. This has put a lot of strain on the family. To take care of Shashi, his dad’s maternal family decided to do some kind of employment. They had a tea stall and Shashi was sent to work there. Shashi is frustrated about the way things are going for him. Riya is the only person who can understand his emotions. She finds a great deal of joy in trying to help him. Riya’s family are of a different profession from Shashi’s. Riya is unable to understand the concepts of money and her family are very poor. They are also over-enthusiastic about school. Shashi comes to know about the fact that Nisha was kidnapped by a group of criminals. He and Malvi go to the party where Nisha was kidnapped.
